Monzero: project objectives
Where Monzero (XMZ) is going over the next six months, what the community can help with, and how we will measure progress. Published 3 November 2026 and updated as work ships.
Mission
Private, mined, community-run digital cash that people can hold, spend and trade without handing their coins to anyone: their own keys, their own node if they want one, and trades settled by atomic swaps rather than exchanges or custodians.
Principles we keep
No custody
The DEX never holds anyone's coins. No wrapped tokens, no bridges, no pooled funds.
Mined, not sold
No premine, no ICO, no token sale. Founder holdings are disclosed and bound by public commitments (no selling for 12 months, then at most 2% a month, never into a new market).
Prove it, then ship it
Every feature passes test networks first, then a small real-funds test by the project, then a gated public release with limits.
Open and verifiable
All source is public; releases are signed; evidence of tests is published. We never post price talk.
Where we are (3 November 2026)
- doneMainnet since 25 August; stable v1.0.0 with LWMA difficulty since block 21,000 (31 October).
- doneWallets: desktop (Linux), Android wallet and miner, CLI, and the signed web wallet at wallet.monzero.org.
- doneMining pool with hourly payouts, public nodes, explorer, faucet, community forum.
- doneDEX: first real-funds XMZ ↔ BNB atomic swap on mainnet (31 October); exchange-style trading screen; wallet connections for BNB, BTC, LTC and SOL.
- doneDEX: BTC/XMZ passes every public-testnet gate with light wallets on both sides (no Bitcoin node needed); Bitcoin mainnet mode built behind a signed safety switch.
- doneFirst real-funds BTC/XMZ atomic swap on mainnet completed (4 November); earlier attempts were cleanly refunded, then the retry swapped end-to-end.
Now (next 2–3 weeks)
DEX: Bitcoin mainnet proven
- Real-funds BTC ↔ XMZ swap on mainnet — done 4 November.
- Publish the evidence (transaction IDs, both chains) on the roadmap.
Wallet distribution
- Google Play / F-Droid submission for the Android wallet.
Network health
- Grow independent miners and public nodes; publish a "run a node" guide push.
- Keep founder mining below a quarter of hashrate (public commitment).
Security groundwork
- Publish the community pentest kit: test plan, scripts and reporting rules.
- Private reporting via security@monzero.org stays the only channel for vulnerabilities.
Next
DEX public beta (gated)
- In-app offer taking: post and take offers from the trading screen.
- Public build with small per-trade and daily limits, controlled by a signed switch that can pause new trades.
- Pairs: BTC and BNB first, then LTC and SOL.
- 1% project fee on the non-XMZ side, paid to published fee addresses.
Community security testing
- Run the pentest kit with community testers on test networks and small real trades.
- Bug rewards paid from DEX fees once fees exist to be decided.
Wallet features
- Web wallet: address book, payment requests, clearer sync status.
- Light-server picker in the desktop app for DEX traders.
Later (3–6 months)
More markets
- XMR route (XMZ → BTC → XMR) without custody.
- BNB/ETH swap contract v2 with the project fee built in.
Reach
- iOS wallet (research first; App Store rules apply).
- Exchange listings that meet the criteria below.
Assurance
- Independent security review when the community can fund it.
- Reproducible builds verified by people outside the project.
DEX launch: the gates
Each stage starts only when the one before it passes. A gate failing means fix and retest, never skip.
| Stage | Gate to pass | Status |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Test networks | Swap, refund, punish, two machines, interruption, power loss; light wallets on both sides | BTC, LTC done |
| 2. Project real-funds test | A real swap and a real refund with the project's own small funds, evidence published | BNB, BTC, SOL done |
| 3. Gated public beta | In-app offers, small limits, signed pause switch, fee addresses published | next |
| 4. Community testing | Pentest kit run by outside testers; all serious findings fixed | next |
| 5. Raised limits | Weeks of trading without loss; limits raised step by step by signed document | later |
Community & marketing
Moderators and marketers: ready-to-post copy, key messages, FAQ answers, scam warnings and visuals are in the community marketing kit.
Steady, honest updates
- X: daily automated posts plus progress posts when something real ships.
- Telegram: a weekly summary of what was built and tested.
- Bitcointalk and the forum: release notes and the monthly report.
Explain the technology
- Short guides: how atomic swaps work, why no custody matters, how to verify a release.
- Screen recordings of real swaps and the web wallet.
- Translations of the website and guides by community members.
Grow participation
- Mining guides for desktop, servers and Android.
- Ambassador roles for people who run nodes, translate or help newcomers.
- Regular community calls or AMAs on the forum.
What we will not do
- No paid promotion, price predictions or "moon" posts.
- No token on other chains, Pump.fun or similar; any such token is not Monzero.
- No promises of returns.
Airdrops & community rewards
Monzero has no premine and no treasury created by the protocol, so any airdrop has to come from a disclosed community pool of already-mined XMZ, with every transfer published. Rewards go to things that make the network stronger, not to sign-ups alone.
Proposed reward tracks
- Node runners: monthly rewards for public nodes that stay online (signed node check-ins already exist).
- DEX testers: rewards for test-network swaps and accepted bug reports during the beta.
- Builders and translators: rewards for merged code, guides and translations.
- Faucet: keeps giving small amounts so newcomers can try the wallets.
Rules
- One account per person, using the existing faucet accounts (email + authenticator); duplicate accounts forfeit rewards.
- Fixed per-person caps; amounts and recipients' public addresses published after each round.
- Rewards are for work done, never for buying or holding.
- Participants follow their own local laws.
To decide
- Size and source of the community pool to be decided.
- First round date and which tracks run first to be decided.
- How it fits the founder commitments (a gift to the pool is not a sale).
Exchange listings: the criteria
- Hashrate spread out enough that no single party controls the chain (founder below a quarter, pool share falling).
- Enough independent public nodes that the network does not depend on the project's servers to be decided: number.
- The DEX live, so XMZ can always be traded without custody.
- Only exchanges that support privacy coins and do not demand paid listing fees we cannot justify.
- The founder never sells into a new market (public commitment).
How we measure progress
| Metric | Today | Proposed target (6 months) |
|---|---|---|
| Network hashrate | about 310 kH/s | 2–3× today, with more independent miners to be decided |
| Founder share of supply | about 9.5%, falling | keeps falling as others mine |
| Independent public nodes | few | 20+ to be decided |
| DEX pairs live (gated) | 0 public | BTC and BNB, then LTC and SOL |
| Wallet platforms | Linux, Android (APK), web | + Google Play / F-Droid |
| Community testers with accepted reports | 0 | 10+ |
| Transparency | founder statement, signed releases | a monthly report: hashrate, nodes, founder holdings, DEX activity |
Still to be decided
- Size and source of the community rewards pool, and the first reward round.
- DEX fee addresses for each coin (BTC, LTC, SOL, BNB).
- Bug reward amounts, once fees exist.
- Exact targets for hashrate and independent nodes.
- When to open the gated public DEX beta after the real-funds BTC swap.
How you can help today
- Mine solo or on the pool, and run a public node.
- Try the web wallet with test coins at testnet-wallet.monzero.org and report bugs.
- Translate a guide, write a tutorial, or help newcomers on the forum.
- Report security problems privately to security@monzero.org.
